Could Carlos Tevez' transfer to Juventus be more good news for Arsenal?
It has been reported that Juventus are to wrap up a deal for Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez for £10 million.
This likely to have several effects, with one speculatively being that City could now look at Stevan Jovetic as a potential replacement.
Even more interesting, is what the news will have for Arsenal and their pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain.
The club received one boost earlier today, with Carlo Ancelotti confirmed as manager of Real Madrid - the key element holding up a move.
Spanish journalist Guilleme Balague confirmed a day ago that the element of the deal which would sway Higuain's destination would be the amount of cash offered to Real Madrid.
Juve and Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Higuain and will fight it off with Madrid. Biggest offer will take him— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) June 24, 2013
It was suggested at the weekend that Juventus were close to admitting defeat in their pursuit of the striker, because they were struggling to raise the finances to keep up with Arsenal.
Juventus had backed off Stevan Jovetic due to an inability to meet Fiorentina's £25 million asking price, rather than a reluctance like Arsenal.
The Italians are said to have proposed to pay Madrid for Higuain in installments over a number of years, whereas Arsenal's offer is believed to be more up front.
Making a move for Tevez with the money they do have, indicates they may just have given up hope of buying Higuain.
If it were not for finances, it could be considered that it would be a move to tempt him, bringing his international teammate on board, but it is difficult to see how the Bianconeri would finance buying both players, especially with Tevez due to be paid a staggering €5.5 million per year salary over three seasons.
They have ruled out selling big name players like Claudio Marchisio, and this news really does indicate that if Higuain is going anywhere, then it will be to Arsenal. Even respected Spanish newspaper El Confidencial run the story: 'Tevez signing for Juventus closes the door to Higuain'
So, Carlo Ancelotti will have the final say, and could even give his decision in the net 24 hours. Arsenal fans are all ears...
