VIDEO: Liverpool's Conor Coady nets for England under-20s

Liverpool midfielder Conor Coady scored England's first goal in their under-20 World Cup opener against Iraq.

England got their under-20 World Cup campaign off to a disappointing start last night, drawing 2-2 against Iraq.

Peter Taylor's side had appeared to be cruising towards victory after taking a 2-0 lead through Liverpool's Conor Coady and Middlesbrough's Luke Williams.

Coady is the team captain, hoping to do enough to propel himself ahead of Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson at Liverpool next season.

He said after the game: "In the second half, I thought we were a bit too defensive and on the back foot, but to be fair to them they came out and pressed us. We’re bitterly disappointed.

"“We’ve got to be positive now and pick ourselves up tomorrow. We’ve got a massive game on Wednesday and we need to go out and win that."

England face a Chile under-20 side in midweek who defeated Tahiti's senior team in a recent friendly, and have Manchester United man Angelo Henriquez in their ranks.

After that it is Egypt, who lost their opener 2-1 to Chile, so England will hope to pick up at least a point against the South Americans.

You can check out Coady's header for England below, which you can watch 40 seconds into the video:
