Are Norwich City lining up Arouna Kone as a replacement for Grant Holt?

Crystal Palace are apparently keen on signing Grant Holt this summer, and Norwich City might add Wigan Athletic’s Arouna Kone to Ricky Van Wolfswinkel in a new look striker force.

Norwich City could be set to continue the overhaul of their attacking options with a move for Wigan Athletic’s Arouna Kone, with Grant Holt apparently on Crystal Palace’s wish list this summer.

Chris Hughton has already brought in Ricky Van Wolswinkel from Sporting Lisbon this summer, and there is also speculation that PSV Eindhoven’s Swedish forward Ola Toivonen is a target for Norwich.

Holt, who was close to leaving Carrow Road last year, is a firm fan’s favourite at Norwich, but could find his opportunities limited next season, and with newly-promoted Palace apparently interested in, the32-year-old might look to extend his top flight career elsewhere.

Kone is keen to leave relegated Wigan, and has a £5million buy-out clause. Norwich are reportedly hoping to get a similar amount for Holt and could view Kone as a younger, more adaptable replacement for the English player.

Kone scored 11 times in the league last season, and was also an integral part of Wigan’s FA Cup success. Able to lead the line or play off another striker, Hughton might view Kone as a more natural foil for Van Wolfswinkel, who is surely set to be the number one choice at Carrow road after his £8million move.

Crystal Palace face starting the season without the injured Glenn Murray, who scored 30 goals to help his team to promotion from the Championship last season, and Holt would be a canny addition to their squad ahead of a difficult first season back in the top flight.

Of course Palace themselves could move for Kone, and the Ivorian has suggested he would be happy to move to join Ian Holloway’s side this summer. There has also been interest in the Wigan player from Hull City and Liverpool, and former manager Roberto Martinez might still decide to bring him to new club Everton.

Kone is almost certain to be a Premier League player with someone next season, and if Norwich end up signing the Ivorian, It would not be surprising to see him come in as a replacement for Holt, who is likely to be a bit-part figure at Carrow Road next season.
