Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder wanted in €12 million Monaco swoop

Lassana Diarra

Reports in Russia suggest AS Monaco will tie up a deal for Lassana Diarra this summer.

AS Monaco have entered the European transfer fray this season and sent it into overdrive with their successgul signings of Ricardo Carvalho, James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho and Radamel Falcao proving that they are not only flexing their muscles; but these guys can bench.

A few seasons ago that position was taken by Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala when they swooped in with a huge deal for Cameroonian superstar Samuel Eto’o; at the time making him the world’s best paid footballer.

And they have not stopped spending big in their pursuit of Russian silverware; and this week completed the incredible signing of Igor Denisov from Russian Premier League rivals Zenit St Petersburg.

But the Dagestan outfit still have books to balance they have been in touch with another Russian; billionaire owner of Monaco Dmitry Rybolovlev; who might just be able to offer them that option.

And the subject matter appears to be a familiar name.

With the arrival of Denisov it is fair to say that Anzhi may no longer need the services of former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra; and it appears he is on his way.

The report in Russian paper Izvestia claims that Monaco are very keen on taking Diarra back to France and the 28-year-old is equally as ardent about a possible move back to his homeland.

Anzhi say they are reluctant to sell but with plenty of midfield coverage for next term cashing on a player who is said to be homesick would seem like good business from the club.

Diarra never had the opportunity to work with Claudio Ranieri whilst at Chelsea; he was signed a year after the Italian’s sacking and therefore worked under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

But reports in Russia are pretty certain that this deal will go through; so he may be working with the former Chelsea boss after all; but in the principality.
