Arsenal latest: Including Higuain's dad and Corchia deadline

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal are continuing to be linked with Wayne Rooney today along with Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. Negotiations with the Argentine are said to be at an advanced stage and Arsene Wenger is said to see Rooney as the perfect player to play just behind the striker next season. It is said that The Gunners will make a £20 million for the Manchester United man.

His dad has also spoken about the deal by admitting that an agreement had been reached with Arsenal and Juventus; and that the final decision will rest with his current club in regards to a transfer fee.

Hamburg’s interest in Johan Djourou has ramped up. The Swiss international spent last campaign on the bench at Arsenal before a loan move to fellow Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96 in January. Now Hamburg’s new sporting director Oliver Kreuzer says they would be willing to buy or loan the player - depending in Arsenal’s preference.

Sebastian Corchia has reportedly chose to play his football at Olympique Lyonnais rather than Arsenal. The French under-21 international captain has also been courted by Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund but his decision is to now play for Lyon. However the deadline Lyon reportedly gave Sochaux to accept their £4.3 million bid for the right-back ended today.

It was reported earlier in the month that Julio Cesar could be on his way to Arsenal after admitting he wanted to stay in London; however he has now opened the door to a potential Serie A return. He has been linked with moves to both AC Milan and AS Roma.

The Arsenal website has brought us a list of potential opponents that Arsenal could face as a seeded team in the third qualifying round for the Champions League.
