Five players who should leave Liverpool before pre-season

Jay Spearing

We take a look at five players who realistically could have left Liverpool by the end of the summer.

The Transfer Window is now in full flow as many a rumour, done deal and negotiation begin to dominate the column inches. Now while more often or not we associate this time of year with new arrivals let us not forget that some players also have to depart.

Liverpool have already been busy; tying down deals for Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure, and Simon Mignolet this summer whilst allowing Andy Carroll to join West Ham United.

But who should they trim off the squad before pre-season gets under way?

Here are five that fit the bill…

Jay Spearing

The combative midfielder simply did not catch the imagination of Brendan Rodgers with his style of play and was subsequently loaned out to Bolton Wanderers last season.

Liverpool apparently want £3 million for him but if they were to be slightly more open to offers they could shift Spearing along in double-quick time.

Jonjo Shelvey

It looked at times as if the former Charlton man was going to have a breakthrough at Anfield last campaign.

However, despite a good start to the season, he soon began struggling which resulted in very public misgivings between Shelvey and some of the clubs fans.

He is believed to fancy a move back down south but after his woeful European Under-21 Championships Liverpool will struggle to get a substantial fee.

Luis Suarez

Liverpool fans will not like me for this one; but considering it is clear to every man and his dog that Suarez wants a move it would be better to get a deal done before training resumes.

It would give them more time to decide what to do with the money and avoid having an unhappy presence around the training ground.

Oussama Assaidi

Things have not quite panned out for Assaidi and it seems the 2012 summer signing may have spent his one and only year on Merseyside.

Cardiff City are keen on the Moroccan and counting their losses on this deal could be the best option.

Sebastian Coates

The Uruguayan international cannot be content with just sitting on the Liverpool bench week-in week-out.

For his reasons Rodgers does not rate Coates as highly as others but he would find no problem in getting a new team.

Who do you think will leave Liverpool this summer?
