Given the way departing players had caused Arsenal trouble in seasons gone by, Arsenal certainly appeared ready if Bacary Sagna had decided to up and leave this summer.
With his contract expiring in 2014, prior to talks re-commencing between club and player, the Gunners were reported to have lined up several potential replacements.
One of these was Sochaux right-back Sebastien Corchia, a 22-year-old who had represented his country at under-21 level on 26 occasions, captaining them several times.
He had been expected to move on this summer and test himself at a higher profile club and reports suggest he is closing in on a move, deciding his destination for next season.
His agent Francois Gilles is reported as saying: "Sebastian has chosen. Lyon is the future, this is what he wants (and) is what he has planned, I can at least confirm that today."
Corchia has reportedly even met with Lyon coach Remi Garde, a former Arsenal player, and visited their training ground in preparation for a switch.
A deal could be done for as little as €5 million, with him lined up to replace 33-year-old Anthony Reveillere at Lyon whose contract is expiring.
Corchia is now waiting for Lyon and Sochaux to agree to terms, but this transfer certainly looks to be well on the way.
It shouldn't really be seen as a snub to Arsenal however with the English side thought to have slowed down their interest in him after renewing talks with Bacary Sagna.
But if those 'ongoing' talks do break down, then Corchia is unlikely to be available as a replacement.
