Dortmund continue to step on Tottenham toes in hunt for Gotze replacement

First it was Bernard and now it is Miralem Pjanic of Roma.

After the type of season that Borussia Dortmund have just had the expectancy was always going to be present that a few players may want to leave the club. But when arguably the players in question are your three most important it certainly is not ideal.

Robert Lewandowski has made no secret of a potential exit; openly courting Bayern Munich for a summer move.

Mats Hummels has also done little to silence exit claims when questioned on the subject of joining Barcelona this summer.

Then there is the one that has already gone. Mario Gotze has already agreed to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich this summer; and he will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season in July.

It has left Die Schwarzgelben searching high and low for a replacement and for now they continually come up short.

Kevin De Bruyne was their first option but his agent has confirmed what we believed to be true for a while now; that he will be staying with Chelsea and fighting for a first-team place next season.

Meanwhile any interest in Isco died a death when Manchester City and Real Madrid took control of proceedings.

However there was certainly more hope when it came to their next target.

Bernard of Atletico Mineiro was strongly linked to the club as they looked set to do battle with Tottenham for the player.

However according to German publication Bild they will no longer be pursuing Bernard because of his €20 million valuation; instead turning their attentions to yet another Spurs target.

Bosnian international playmaker Miralem Pjanic has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane all summer and despite his agent confirming a desire to remain with AS Roma next year as recently as this week that now appears ready to be tested by Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp has seen a €14 million bid sanctioned and they will hope to pry him away from Serie A this summer.

Leaving Tottenham to try negotiate Mineiro down on their costly valuation of Bernard all on their own.

Do you think Spurs should go for Pjanic?
