Shinji Kagawa produced a stunning midfield performance, which wasn’t quite enough to help Japan over the line against Italy in the Confederations Cup.
The Japanese midfielder is under a lot of pressure at the moment with several players being regularly linked with big money moves to Manchester United, which threaten his position at Old Trafford.
However, Kagawa proved just why United possibly don’t need to go and sign a player like Thiago Alcantara with a superb display of skill in all its varieties against a very talented Italian side.
His performance also included a goal, which is an area which he’s promised to work on ahead of the new Premier League season as he didn’t reach his target of 20 goals last year.
It was actually a truly stunning finish on his left foot after some poor defending from the Italian defence. It’s clear what scoring means to him and United fans will be hoping for many repeats of that wild celebration next season.
If he’s played centrally, in his best position and United can find a consistent winger to use down the left of the pitch then he could easily be the club’s player of the season next year.
Take a look at his performance.
What do you think? What do you make of the goal?
