All of the latest news and transfer stories coming out of Villa Park.

Aston Villa start the new season with a difficult away match to Premier League giants Arsenal. Paul Lambert couldn’t have asked for a worse start as the club look to get off to a good and fast start, preventing the chance of another relegation scrap over the 2013/2014 campaign.

Aston Villa are closing on the signing of Sevilla full back Antonio Luna. The Spanish club are having to axe some of their best young players as they look to ease the grim financial situation, which is currently affecting the club both on and off the pitch ahead of the new campaign.

Aston Villa will not stray from their £8 million asking price for striker Darren Bent. Bent was cast to the shadows last season as it became clear very quickly that Paul Lambert didn’t see him as serious competition to Christian Benteke’s place in the attack of the side.

Aston Villa have beaten Manchester United to the signing of defender Jores Okore. The defensive player has agreed to join the club when the transfer window opens next month, arriving with Champions League experience where he played for FC Nordsjaelland.

Midfielder Barry Bannan could leave the club as Paul Lambert shapes up his clear out ahead of the transfer window. Bannan was used sparingly last season which has led to media reports that he’s now seen as surplus to requirements at Villa Park, leading to the natural assumption he’ll be moved on.

Aston Villa will officially complete the signing of Nicklas Helenius from Aalborg next month. A deal has been agreed between the two clubs and everything is in place for the transfer to go through officially, as soon as the transfer window opens on July 1.

New Aston Villa signing Nicklas Helenius has revealed former Villa favourite Kent Nielsen got him ready for a move to the Premier League. The club’s new striker attributes Nielsen as the man who helped him to transform his game and become the striker he is today.

Former Aston Villa full back Eric Lichaj has signed a two-year deal with Championship side Nottingham Forest. The full back struggled to get into the side under Paul Lambert last season, which subsequently saw him released after Villa secured their Premier League safety.

Former Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie and his wife have been accused of making false insurance claims. Hendrie’s wife has admitted that they were experiencing a difficult financial situation in the summer of 2011 but the former Villa star had little to do with the insurance affairs.
