Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Eriksen back on and Brazilian updates

A select round-up of transfer rumours relating to Tottenham Hotspur, including Christian Eriksen, Andre Villas-Boas, Bernard, Paulinho and Gareth Bale.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has rejected the chance to take over at Ligue 1 club PSG, who are now expected to appoint Fabio Capello instead. Villas-Boas is keen to start a second season with the same club for the first time in his career, and rumours persist that any role at PSG would only be for a year as they have lined up Arsene Wenger for summer 2014.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have been given a boost in the race for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen after Borussia Dortmund denied the reports linking them with a move for the player. Eriksen was widely expected to join Dortmund this summer as a replacement for Bayern Munich-bound Mario Gotze, but it seems that the Champions League runners up are still hoping to sign Chelsea’s Kevin De Bruyne instead.

Whether Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool are still keen on a move for the player, who is valued at around £15million, is unknown. Spurs bought Lewis Holtby in January and also have several other players in Eriksen’s position, whilst Liverpool are keen to complete a move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Eriksen himself is keen to leave Ajax to play at a higher level this summer, and the Dutch club are willing to sell at the right price.

Spurs have been described as the only contenders in the race for Brazilian winger Bernard, and are also reportedly close to completing a deal for Paulinho. Dortmund were also expected to bid for Bernard, but agent Hissa Moyses has suggested that only Spurs are in the running for the 20-year-old at the moment.

Meanwhile Spurs are apparently set to offer £15million for Paulinho in an attempt to head off interest from Serie A sides Roma and Inter. However Corinthians are likely to hold out for his buy-out clause of £17million given the level of interest in the player.

Real Madrid have apparently reserved the number 11 shirt in their squad in the hope that they will be able to complete a move for Gareth Bale this summer. The shirt was previously worn by Ricardo Carvalho, who recently left the club to join Monaco.
