Arsenal are preparing to make a £22million bid for Gonzalo Higuain this week, and several news outlets are reporting that the Gunners are confident of getting their man after Juventus switched their attention to Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez.
Juventus were also put off when Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted that an £18million offer for Higuain would be nowhere near enough to sign the striker, and whether Arsenal’s proposed £22million bid would convince Real Madrid to sell is yet to be seen.
Higuain has made his desire to leave Real Madrid clear, but any move might have to wait until a new manager is installed at the Bernabeu, with Carlo Ancelotti expected to sign as soon as PSG can find a replacement for the Italian.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly set to battle over West Brom’s 14-year-old wonderkid Yan Dhanda. Dhanda is viewed as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League, and Liverpool already have a record of raiding the Hawthorns for youth stars, with Jerome Sinclair becoming their youngest ever player last season after they signed him from West Brom.
There have been reports that both Bacary Sagna and Laurent Kosicelny have given assurance they will stay at Arsenal for at least another season. Both have been linked with moves away from the Emirates this summer, with Sagna’s contract expiring in 2014 and Koscielny apparently a target for both Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
However both men are happy to stay at Arsenal this summer, a welcome boost to Arsene Wenger’s plans for next season after the French pair were key to his team’s defensive fortitude in the closing months of the season.
Finally, Arsenal are considering a move for Lille winger Dimitri Payet, who scored 12 times for the Ligue 1 club last season. The 26-year-old could be targeted to act as a replacement for the last winger Arsenal bought from Lille, with Gervinho likely to be moved on this summer.
