Firstly PSG have apparently escalated their pursuit of Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, making the Portuguese their number one target after apparently failing in their pursuit of Guus Hiddink. There has been no comment from either Spurs or Villas-Boas yet, with the manager currently on holiday.
Gareth Bale has been urged to hand in a transfer request by Zinedine Zidane, who seems to have taken on the role of spokesman with regards to Real Madrid’s interest in the Welshman. Bale, who has also been on holiday recently, could be the subject of a world record bid in the coming weeks.
There has even been speculation that PSG hope the capture of Bale will help them convince Villas-Boas to leave Spurs for France. The Ligue 1 champions are apparently considering a world record £85million bid for the Welsh player.
In terms of Spurs own targets, it appears that Porto have entered the race for 20-year-old winger Bernard, and the Portuguese club have a good relationship with the Brazilian’s current club Atletico Mineiro. Porto are not short of funds, having recently sold James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho to Monaco for £60million, and could target Bernard as a replacement for the former.
In a final piece of bad news, Paulinho has dismissed reports that his agent is in England to negotiate a transfer on his behalf, saying that Giuliano Bertolucci has many clients. One of those clients is in fact Bernard, and optimistic fans might hope that Bertolucci is in England on behalf of the winger if not Bernard.
However, there are also reports that Paulinho is in fact close to a Spurs switch, and there might be yet another Brazilian on the club’s radar. Botafogo’s 18-year-old defender Doria has apparently caught the eye of Spurs’ incoming sporting director Franco Baldini, who rates the youngster as highly as Roma’s Marquinhos.
Finally, Inter president Massimo Moratti has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur are really interested in Fredy Guarin, with reports that a £17million bid was turned down last week.
