Russia's largest news agency ITAR-TASS is reporting that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is to head to Liverpool later this week for a medical.
The translated article reads: "Mkhitaryan will fly to England. Liverpool (will) officially announce the signing of a contract with the player closer to the end of the week. The amount of compensation for the top scorer in the championship of Ukraine will be about 30 million euros."
The Armenian is an incredibly exciting player, who scored 25 goals for Shakhtar in 29 games last season.
His arrival will be a 100 per cent positive for Liverpool, a major coup for the club. His versatility and able to play in a number of positions between midfield and an out and forward.
The goals he can bring to the team can help compensate for the loss of Luis Suarez if the Uruguayan departs - taking into account another striker or two would be bought to replace the hitman.
He will ease the pressure on any new strikers replacing Suarez, with goals further spread around the team.
The 24-year-old will be a groundbreaker, as the highest profile Armenian player, their country is beginning to make waves in Europe with an incredible 4-0 win over Denmark last week. There will be great interest to see if he can transfer his form to the Premier League.
Last year when Arsenal signed Santi Cazorla, it was the sort of high profile attacking purchase which stunned the Premier League. The Spaniard netted 12 goals and provided 11 assists in his debut season in the division, and this is the type of impact the Armenian could try to replicate or even better.
Brendan Rodgers is trying to create a fluid attacking side, and Mkhitaryan gives the Reds a further x-factor to their array of weapons. With experience of playing and scoring in the Champions League - it may just be the Premier League's defenders who struggle to adapt to him and not the other way around.
Paying over £20 million for any player should be seen as a gamble, and given Liverpool's recent transfer market failings fans have every reason to be sceptical.
But Mkhitaryan may just prove to be a steal at that price, and there may not be many better and more exciting signings this summer in the Premier League.
