Reports from Italy suggest that Manchester United have offered a player-plus-cash deal for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
The 27-year-old spoke last week about his future at the Italian champions, saying, “I’ve heard that I may not be so valuable to Juve anymore.”
Speaking of a potential offer from United he said he would be very proud if it came about. And now stories suggest David Moyes’ side have tabled a bid of €15million plus Nani.
With strong competition for his signature from Monaco, the final decision will come down to Marchisio. But it seems the loss of one midfielder to Italy a year ago in Paul Pogba could now be pushing another closer to Manchester.
Moyes is also said to be attempting to sign Dutchman Marco van Ginkel ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal.
United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor watched the Vitesse Arnhem player in the Under-21 European Championship. But the fact that Chelsea have a first-refusal agreement on the Dutch club’s players means United may miss out on the 20-year-old should Jose Mourinho sanction a move.
It is also being reported that new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini wishes to sign long-time United target Robert Lewandowski.
City wish to make him one of their highest paid players, but have been told the Polish international is holding out for a move to Bayern Munich.
Perhaps aware of that fact, United are said to have dropped out of the race for Lewandowski’s signature.
Speaking to TalkSport yesterday, German football writer Raphael Honigstein said the Pole is likely to join Bayern in due course, and that United, although being kept informed of developments have moved on with their transfer plans.
