Wesley Sneijder

News and gossip from the past 48 hours at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho has been dominating the headlines once again. He has stated he knew about Sir Alex Ferguson’s desire to quit at the end of last season; but that he would have turned down the Manchester United job anyway just to take over at Chelsea again.

He has also commented on Fernando Torres admitting that the strikers career at Chelsea so far has been ‘so-so’. Torres was linked with Barcelona recently but quashed those rumours as he hoped Mourinho would turn him into the best striker in the world again. He said some may have expected more from the Spaniard since his £50 million move from Liverpool.

Juan Mata has also ignored speculation about his future. It was rumoured that Mourinho could let the Spanish international go this summer but he has reaffirmed his commitment to the club whilst also stating that nobody has informed him that the Portuguese has any reason to want him out of Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United are ready to get in on the act in regards to Dutch international Marco van Ginkel. The Vitesse Arnhem midfielder has been dubbed ‘the new Sneijder’ because of their similar playing styles and despite Chelsea’s excellent working relationship with the Dutch club United are ready to offer £15 million for the player.

Sneijder has also been linked with the club recently but he has ruled out a move to Chelsea. Sneijder has stated he is happy at Galatasaray today and admitted he could not leave the Turkish fans in the lurch. He said he will at least stay at the club until January and declared his love for Istanbul.

Finally and new Aston Villa recruit Jores Okore has revealed he is happy he rejected Chelsea. He said he felt positive about what Paul Lambert has planned for the club and that the decision to turn down Chelsea’s advances will be justified.
