News and gossip from the past 48 hours at The Emirates.
Arsenal are now being mentioned as the favourites to sign up Portuguese winger Nani from Manchester United. The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the club and Galatasaray are said to have had a bid of £6 million rejected for the player recently. Nani is not said to be in the plans of David Moyes and Arsenal are apparently set to bid £8 million for the player.
It was reported on Friday that Arsenal would be willing to break the clubs transfer record to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid; and according to reports in Spain a €30 million bid is indeed being lined up. Juventus have made a much smaller offer for the player so Arsenal will hope their offer will whet the appetite of Real Madrid more than that of the Bianconeri.
Andre Santos has expressed his disappointment at having to return to The Emirates. The Brazilian has been on loan at Brazilian outfit Gremio but his loan spell has not been made permanent. He had this to say about the lack of a move back to Brazil:
“Gremio had an agreement with Arsenal and I have to return. I wanted to stay. Gremio were fair regarding everything. I felt well there and I wanted to win a title before leaving. Unfortunately there is no deal and I had to return to Arsenal.”
Arsenal are said to be verging on starting contract negotiations with manager Arsene Wenger. After the appointment of Sir Chips Keswick as the clubs new chairman Goal.com understands they will be willing to talk to him whenever possible about extending his 17-year reign at the club.
Finally and Arsenal are now being linked with Lille midfielder Dimitri Payet. The French international is being courted by fellow Ligue 1 outfit Marseille this summer but reports in France suggest Arsenal are preparing to join that race.
