Manchester United target Marchisio doubts his importance to Juventus

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has been speaking about his future whilst on international duty with Italy.

When professional footballers go away on international duty it appears that they simply forget all about their allegiances to their current clubs; and you can add Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio to the list of big names who have recently made it clear that all is not rosy at their current club.

Thursday started off with former club president at Juventus Giovanni Cobolli Gigli stating that the lifelong Juve fan and player should be rewarded with his loyalty by being given the coveted number ‘10’ shirt worn by club legend Alessandro Del Piero.

But it ended in less harmonious fashion as he revealed his doubts over the true importance that the Bianconeri place on his services.

Speaking in Brazil, where he is currently in preparation for the Confederations Cup, he made these ill feelings abundantly clear…

“I will have to talk to Juventus. I want to see if I’m still important for them. If not, then it is only normal for me to look at other teams. It has been said that my intentions are decisive, but it takes two to tango. Eventual offers from Manchester United or Monaco make me proud, but nobody has called me. Now I am focusing on the Confederations Cup and after that I’ll understand what’s real and what isn’t.”

Manchester United and the new kids on the block AS Monaco have both been linked with making €20 million bids for the player this summer and there is little reason why not considering the talismanic qualities of the midfield maestro.

But such a move would anger fans of The Old Lady who consider Marchisio royalty in their starting line-up; and would be appalled to see him leave so cheap.

However the comments should be music to the ears of Manchester United fans. If their interest in the player is as true as we are led to be believed than there is little doubt that Marchisio’s comments are a clear indicator that he could be open to a move. And he could be the long-term central midfield solution they have been searching for.
