Former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has landed himself in a very unusual kind of controversy.
A red card for Javier Mascherano may not seem like a big deal nor a surprise, after all this is the man who talked himself off the field away to Manchester United.
But the manner of his latest faux pas was quite an unique one - he was sent off for kicking the driver of the medical cart which was carrying him off the pitch.
It was quite an odd incident, and Mascherano's face conveyed his complete shock when the referee brandished the red card.
We'd place it up there with Eden Hazard's red card for kicking a ball boy, except in fairness Mascherano's seems so much more incident than that, and really just a gentle prod of frustration rather than a vicious assault.
The incident came in the 1-1 draw between his Argentina side and Ecuador in World Cup qualifying this week.
It has not caused a great deal of attention over here in England, but you just wonder quite what the outrage would be if Luis Suarez committed the same act for Liverpool.
We are quite sure the FA would be ready and willing to hand him a lengthy ban. Let's just hope he isn't picking up any tips from his fellow South American...
