Bruno Gomes, 17, hit the headlines when he scored an incredible seven goals in one game earlier this year.
The starlet was of course already known to many, particularly fans of Manchester United who had been keeping an eye on his progress.
He plays for Desportivo Brasil, a youth team in South America whose specific aim is to develop youngsters rather than compete for the Brazilian title or domestic cups.
Desportivo have a working partnership with Manchester United, and Gomes was invited over last year to the club to meet Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney, who he describes as his idol.
Earlier today on Twitter he re-affirmed his goal to join the club, tweeting his plans:
My friends, I dream of wearing a red shirt since 2011, of course I want to make history as 1st Brazilian top score of the premier league!!!— Bruno Gomes (@B9oficial) June 13, 2013
However there could be a snag, for it appears he has not heard from United since Ferguson retired and David Moyes was installed as boss.
For before his tweet outlining his dream, he messaged:
My friends with the changes in the club, still do not know if I will sign with the Reds, let's wait! Thanks for your love for me!!!— Bruno Gomes (@B9oficial) June 13, 2013
United fans should not worry too much, for there are several first team players at the club who likely have not yet heard from David Moyes and the new regime.
The players are on their holidays, and Moyes tenure at the club does not officially begin until July 1.
Gomes will not simply have been forgotten about, but it's just a case of him being slightly down the club's priority list at present.
There were plans in the pipeline to invite him on the pre-season tour, which may or may not happen, but if they don't it isn't necessarily a snub, just that Moyes will be using the fixtures to assess the club's current players first-hand, an essential task as he gets to know the new faces.
He cannot sign officially until he turns 18 due to Brazilian regulations about players moving overseas, so keep an eye on Gomes' but don't be overly worried about his comments, for you can be sure his agent will be on the club's case.
