Liverpool have been beaten to the free transfer of Manuel Iturra by Spanish side Granada, according to a statement on the club's website.
The midfielder has been pictured on the club's turf holding up the shirt, proving the transfer is as official as it gets.
Iturra, 28, had been playing at Malaga for one season - Impressing in their Champions League run to the quarter-finals.
The Spanish side recently saw their ban from next season's Europa League upheld, and Iturra's loss is another blow.
His contract, just one year when he signed last summer, expires officially at the end of this month, and Malaga were unable to tempt him into signing a new one.
Back in March, reports from abroad, and even Talksport, claimed a switch to Liverpool was on the verge of being agreed.
Iturra is a defensive midfielder who could have provided cover for Lucas in the position.
Granada finished 15th in La Liga last season and view the signing of Iturra as a major coup for the club.
Liverpool's failure to pursue the Chilean international could be seen as an indication the Reds could promote 20-year-old Conor Coady into the first team next season.
Liverpool fans, are you disappointed or not really fussed?
