Will AVB turn his back on Spurs for PSG?

AVB

Early reports today are suggesting that Andre Villas-Boas is a target for Paris Saint-German to replace Carlo Ancelotti as manager.

The French club have already been linked with some very high profile managers including Arsene Wenger from Tottenham’s arch enemies Arsenal but there are plenty of reasons for Spurs fans to stay optimistic.

AVB clearly has unfinished business with Tottenham which was created by the club’s failures to beat Arsenal to fourth place last season.

He’s always shown and maintained his belief that the club can secure Champions League football and consolidate as one of the top English teams in European football.

He’s unlikely to walk away from the club until he’s achieved that and this rumour would have a lot more substance and credibility have the Portuguese coach been leaving Tottenham with that competition to look forward to.

Also reflect on this rumour from a business point of view and how significant AVB is to Tottenham away from the field.

He seems to have the full support and backing of the club’s head Daniel Levy, who has always proven himself to be superb when it comes down to keeping the club’s best assets or holding out for the best deal.

If AVB suggests he wants to stay with the club, and there’s no reason to think otherwise, Levy will take that as a green light to make it as awkward as possible for PSG to get anywhere near him.

AVB is also crucial in terms of the club’s chances of keeping their best players.

He seems to be one of the only reasons Gareth Bale would choose to turn down the riches and glamour of a move to Real Madrid, to remain one of the main men in Villas-Boas’ Tottenham side for next season.

He’s also a manager who has plenty of contacts which allow Tottenham to get after key signings, where there is a lot of competition for them.

The club have been linked with several players from Porto, his former club, and still stand a good chance of singing the players who haven’t already decided to go and play for Monaco in France.

That is a benefit that the club would not be able to enjoy from. They would certainly utilise the contacts of a new boss in the same way, but there are some superbly talented Portuguese players being linked with the club, where they will need an edge to sign them.

AVB also showed during his time at Chelsea that he’s not cut out, doesn’t enjoy or doesn’t want to be anywhere near a club where he doesn’t have complete authority.

The way Monaco are acting and spending cash this summer means whoever goes to PSG will be under massive pressure to keep them ahead in terms of French football.

AVB has the sort of character, respect and loyalty which means it’s going to take much more than a big contract for PSG to poach him away.

What do you make of the rumour? Do you expect him to stay loyal to Spurs?
