Ex-Chelsea midfielder told Falcao to snub Blues and Manchester United

Radamel Falcao spurned approaches from Chelsea and Manchester United last month to move to Monaco.

Why did Falcao choose Monaco? The answer in the eyes of many is simple; money - and lots of it.

But one of his now former Atletico Madrid teammates believes it is down to much more than that.

The teammate told the Colombian that the French league is an excellent choice and one he would enjoy.

The man partially responsible then, for the striker choosing Monaco, is former Chelsea midfielder - Tiago.

Tiago was signed in 2004 by Jose Mourinho for the Blues, but only lasted a season before being sold to Lyon.

He spent two years in France before switching to Juventus and his time there clearly made an impression.

Tiago told France Football:

"He asked me things about the French championship. I enjoyed both living and playing there, I could only say good things. So I advised him to accept the proposal.

"He's very family (orientated) and very homely. He will soon be a father for the first time and I knew he wanted to be in a quiet environment. And in this sense, Monaco is much better than Manchester"

"Ligue 1 is very tactical, there are many draws and hard to find holes in the defence and score. But with his power, vision and great effectiveness in front of goal, he does not lack the ability to score many goals."

As Spanish newspaper AS points out in their report, another man may also have had a larger say - super agent Jorge Mendes who represents both Tiago and Falcao, and coincidentally Jose Mourinho.
