Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: flank frustrations and going Dutch

Afellay And Cavani

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Tottenham Hotspur, including Wesley Sneijder, Tom Ince, Bernard and Ibrahim Affelay.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona winger Ibrahim Affelay. The 27-year-old was linked with a loan move to Spurs last year, but opted to go to Schalke instead before injury curtailed his season.

The Dutch international is apparently keen to secure a place in the Netherlands squad for next year’s World Cup by playing regular first team football, and Barcelona could be happy to let him go for around £5million as he is not in Tito Vilanova’s plans. Despite his injury problems, Affelay is a an excellent player, and would add some much needed cover at Spurs, especially for Aaron Lennon.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been put on alert by reports suggesting Wesley Sneijder would be allowed to leave Galatasaray for £12.75million this summer. Both Spurs and Chelsea were apparently keen on the Dutch player when he moved to Turkey in January, and could be tempted to bid again despite Sneijder’s mixed form in the second half of the season.

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal responded to rumours that Sneijder would be keen to reunite with Jose Mourinho, who he won the treble with at Inter, by suggesting the 29-year-old would be allowed to leave at the right price.

Tottenham Hotspur could be frustrated in their pursuit of two wingers this summer, with Brazilian youngster Bernard being urged to join the Bundesliga, and Crystal Palace attempting to beat Liverpool and Spurs to Blackpool player Tom Ince.

Bernard’s international team-mate Dante has said he would fit in well at Borussia Dortmund, with some concerns that his slight physique - the 20-year-old is only 5ft 4in and weighs under nine stone - might see him bullied out of Premier League matches.

Meanwhile Crystal Palace have apparently identified Tom Ince as the perfect replacement for Wilfried Zaha, and are hoping that they can catch Spurs and Liverpool napping with an early bid for the 21-year-old. Ince has also played under manager Ian Holloway before during the 50-year-old’s tenure at Blackpool.
