This summer’s transfer window looks set to be a little game of ‘musical chairs’ involving the continent’s top strikers.
Undoubtedly the most coveted striker in Europe this term was Radamel Falcao who has reportedly agreed to join Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. And so it begins…
To replace him at Atletico Madrid, how about Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke who is a reported target of the La Liga outfit. However, the Belgian is also a reported target of Fiorentina due to the likelihood they will lose star striker Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal or Chelsea.
However, Fiorentina are also linked with Mario Gomez who is set to exit the Allianz Arena and leave Bayern Munich this summer. The Bundesliga champions are reportedly eyeing up a move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez since they have been told their top target Robert Lewandowski of Borussia Dortmund is off limits to them.
Lewandowski has suggested he wants to leave Dortmund this summer and, since he won’t be sold to their Bundesliga rivals, he now looks all the more likely to sign for Manchester United who, incidentally, look set to lose Wayne Rooney to Paris Saint-Germain after he handed in a transfer request last month.
A move to Arsenal has been mooted but I would expect him to move to the French capital instead of the English capital after reports have suggested PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic could potentially follow Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants had a disappointing season under Jose Mourinho and look likely to offload the likes of Gonzalo Higuain who is also linked with the Gunners – although he seems to be fancying a move to Juventus rather than the Emirates.
The Italian champions are also rumoured to be interested in Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez who looks set to leave the Etihad this summer. City are heavily linked with in AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaaraway whilst the Italian capital is also a potential destination for Tevez.
City are reportedly chasing Edinson Cavani who also happens to be a target of Chelsea’s – the Napoli hitman is heavily linked with fancying a move to Stamford Bridge where he would likely replace Fernando Torres who is linked with joining Rafael Benitez at Napoli or perhaps Galatasaray should Chelsea instead opt to pursue their interest in Burak Yilmaz.
It’s all very confusing – who knows who will be where when the music stops on at 11pm on 31st August.
