European transfer talk: Featuring Varane, Mascherano and Pavyluchenko

Transfer news featuring former Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool players as well as an ex-Manchester City transfer target.

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has turned down what would have been a sensational move to El Clasico rivals Barcelona this summer. It had been reported that the Frenchman was being lined up by the Blaugrana after it was revealed he has a €30 million buyout clause in his current contract. However it’s believed that Varane has rejected the advances of his current clubs great rivals.

Javier Mascherano continues to be linked consistently with a move to Napoli this summer. The Argentine is being linked with a return to working with Rafa Benitez; with whom he was a stalwart during their respective Liverpool tenures.

Napoli hope to snap him up from Barca for €20 million despite his considerably larger buyout clause.

Benitez is also being linked with a move for French international Adil Rami of Valencia as another option at the heart of defence.

It looks increasingly likely that Mario Gomez will be on his way to Fiorentina. Reports continue that the German international, who has handed in a transfer request at Bayern Munich, has agreed terms on a deal with the Florence based outfit over a summer move. Gomez wants to leave for a new challenge this summer. However his agent has since denied that terms have been agreed on a deal.

Former Manchester City target Diego Novaretti will sign for Lazio in the summer. The 28-year-old defender has been in great form for Mexican outfit Deportivo Toluca which has attracted attention from the continent in recent weeks. He will undergo a medical at the club on Wednesday.

Dejan Stankovic is to rescind his contract with Inter Milan this summer in order to facilitate a move to the MLS. The 34-year-old will leave Inter after ten years with the club this summer and could join Seattle Sounders or Toronto FC.

Fenerbahce have informed Lokomotiv Moscow to ‘name their price’ for former Tottenham striker Roman Pavyluchenko. The player has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now after rumours of a tense relationship between him and coach Slaven Bilic.
