6. 1967 - Israeli forces stop their advance into Syria and comply with a UN ceasefire bringing to an end six days of fighting on three fronts

7. 1979 - John Wayne, the iconic American film actor famous for starring in countless westerns, dies at age 72

8. 1982 - Steven Spielberg's movie E.T. opens

9. 1987 - Margaret Thatcher becomes the first British prime minister in 160 years to win a third consecutive term of office

10. 1995 - Courtney Love is hospitalized after having a reaction to a prescription medicine

11. 1999 - Nato suspends its 11-week aerial war on Kosovo as Serb troops begin to withdraw
