News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.
Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has urged the team to keep up its high standards under new manager David Moyes, regardless of the comings and goings this summer.
“It is going to be a new era and a new challenge, with a new manager, maybe some new players coming,” explained the Dutchman.
“Zaha is coming in from Crystal Palace, maybe some more. Maybe some will leave, nobody knows.”
“But it is going to be a new challenge and everybody knows what our standards are: we want to win the league again and then hopefully add one or two trophies to that,” he added.
In transfer news, United will be boosted by the word from Borussia Dortmund who have insisted Bayern Munich will ‘definitely not’ be allowed to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer.
"Robert Lewandowski will definitely not transfer to Bayern Munich in 2013," the club's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild newspaper.
"This is final. We have informed Robert and his advisors. The Bayern case is closed because there was no written offer."
However, the bad news is that United have been told Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
“I am going to be as clear as possible,” he said.
“My aim, Cristiano’s aim, and the aim of all Real Madrid fans is that he carries on playing here for many years to come.”
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain star Thiago Silva has urged Wayne Rooney to join him in the French capital.
"Whenever I have played against him he has scored," Silva said,
"I would really like Rooney to sign for PSG.”
Back at Old Trafford, Nani’s future remains ‘uncertain’. The Portuguese winger admitted he has yet to decide if he’s going to leave and, if so, where.
"I have not yet decided where I am going or if I am going,” he stated.
"In the next few days I will decide my future."
However, United legend Denis Irwin claims the club will ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Cesc Fabregas who has emerged as a top target for the Red Devils this summer.
"Cesc Fabregas has zoomed up Manchester United's transfer target list to the top position and the champions are going to move heaven and earth to get him," he asserted.
In other news, the date for United’s Community Shield final against Wigan has been confirmed as 2pm August 11th at Villa Park.
According to United youth boss Paul McGuinness, David Moyes turned down a job with United 15 years ago.
This comes as former United defender Phil Neville confirmed his retirement from football at Everton although he has yet to confirm whether he will take up a coaching role under Moyes at United.
United have, however, confirmed David Sternberg as their new Head of Media.
Finally, the club have also struck a new four-year deal with Mexican banking group INVEX who will come on board as sponsors, providing Manchester United branded credit cards in Mexico.
