The football season never truly ends does it? We have just got over the end of the Premier League campaign yet still plenty of our stars are still in competitive action.
International fixtures have dominated the landscape in recent weeks from across the world and plenty of Premier League players have been on target including the likes of Santi Cazorla, Maraoune Fellaini and Clint Dempsey.
But it was the turn of Manchester City’s Yaya Toure to find the net on Saturday evening as his Ivory Coast side travelled to The Gambia for a World Cup Qualification matchup at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
And it was a pretty straight-forward victory as you would expect between these two nations.
Toure put the icing on the cake in sumptuous fashion; bending in a free-kick from the left-hand side beyond the desperate dive of Christopher Allen in goal.
The only blip on the 90th minute strike was the fact Yaya limped away from it; seemingly suffering with cramp City fans so don’t worry too much.
The other goals in the game came from Anzhi striker Lacina Traore and his strike partner Wilfried Bony.
The small, powerful centre forward has been banging in the goals this season for Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem and he was more than obliging when given a simple opportunity in front of goal yesterday to make it 2-0.
West Ham have become the latest Premier League side to be strongly linked with his signature recently; especially if Andy Carroll snubs the clubs contract offer.
Benfica are also keen along with an abundance of teams being linked with his signature such as London rivals Chelsea and Fulham.
But for now their thoughts are on international duty as they travel to Tanzania next; and victory in that game would make them one of the first teams into the next round of African qualifying.
Here are the goals from the fixture…
