Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Gomez in, Gomes out?

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Tottenham Hotspur, including Mario Gomez, Bernard, Heurelho Gomes, Benoit Assout-Ekotto and Alex Kacaniklic.

Perhaps the most unexpected rumours of the weekend has seen Bayern Munich’s prolific striker Mario Gomez linked with a £7million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Considering Gomez has been lined with several £25+million moves in the past couple of weeks, unless there is a digit missing in the Metro’s valuation, this looks unlikely to happen.

Despite problems with injuries and the form of Mario Mandzukic relegating him to the bench, Gomez managed 19 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season, and if he does leave this summer due to the arrival of Robert Lewandowski, there will be plenty of Champions League clubs in the hunt.

A far more likely transfer this summer is that goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes will leave White Hart Lane, with the Brazilian himself saying he needs a move to ensure he is playing first team football next season.

Gomes spent the second half of the season on loan at Hoffenheim, impressing as the German team avoiding relegation, and he could go back to Brazil this summer to build on that form.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly chasing two young wingers, with Brazilian youngster Bernard and Fulham’s Alex Kacaniklic both being monitored. Bernard is one of the most exciting youngsters in Brazil, and is also apparently on Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea’s radar, but is unlikely to move until after the Copa Libertadores which ends in late July.

Spurs could try and tempt Fulham with a £5million offer for Kacaniklic, and there is also a possibility that they will use midfielder Tom Huddlestone as a makeweight in a deal for the Swede.

Another player that has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer is Benoit Assou-Ekotto, with Turkish club Fenerbahce reportedly interested in the left-back. Assou-Ekotto missed much of last season through injury, but even when he returned he was not guaranteed a starting place under Andre Villas-Boas, and Danny Rose’s return from loan might see the 29-year-old sold this summer if a significant bid came in.
