Eduardo Salvio’s agent has suggested the Benfica player could leave Portugal this summer, with Everton currently leading Premier League interest.

This summer is shaping up to be a vital transfer window at the top of the Premier League, with a battalion of new managers hoping to reshape their squads and every club knowing that they could be left behind without significant investment.

Although Everton were not in the running for a Champions League place on the last day of the season, they enjoyed a fine year, and might join Tottenham Hotspur in rueing not being active enough in the January window to overhaul Arsenal.

Both North London teams are likely to bring in several new players this summer in an attempt to keep pace with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, and with Liverpool quick off the mark in the transfer market, Everton know they will need to back Roberto Martinez in the next few months.

One player they are apparently keen on is Benfica’s Eduardo Salvio, who will be interesting plenty of sides around Europe after an excellent season at the Portuguese club.

The right-winger scored ten times in the league, and also played a key role in Benfica’s Europa Cup run, with the Portuguese team undone by Branislav Ivanovic’s late winner in the final.

Having also crumbled at the last minute to finish second to Porto in the league, Benfica might now endure a difficult summer with key players like Salvio, Oscar Cardozo and Nemanja Matic all being linked with a move.

Salvio’s agent, Agustin Jiminez, has said the 22-year-old has not made a decision about his future, and also indicated that teams in England and Italy had contacted Benfica about the player.

Benfica paid just under £10million for Salvio just last summer, and it would likely take a bid of around £15million to convince the Portuguese side to sell the Argentine.

However if Everton could sign Salvio it would be a real gesture of intent this summer, and an excellent way to show faith in their new manager as well as bringing an superb young player to Goodison Park.
