News and gossip from the past 48 hours at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are continuing to be linked with selling Juan Mata to Real Madrid this weekend; with the diminutive Spaniard even trending on Twitter this morning because of it.
Chelsea have reportedly had a £40 million bid plus Thibaut Courtois turned down by Napoli for star striker Edinson Cavani. The offer was reportedly made on Friday and was swiftly rejected. However Napoli are expecting an improved offer closer to his current release clause.
Staying with Courtois and the goalkeeper has since confirmed he will again be on loan at Atletico Madrid next season. It will be the Belgian number one’s third season at the Vicente Calderon and puts to bed any talk of him leaving on a permanent deal this summer.
Jose Mourinho has been busy in this respect; addressing the issue of the players who have impressed out on loan this season. Romelu Lukaku for instance will stay after receiving assurances from Mourinho. It was also reported that he has informed Bayer Leverkusen that Kevin De Bruyne will not be going on loan to the club next season; while Kenneth Omeruo is expected to be recalled from ADO Den Haag.
Chelsea have also reportedly taken the lead in the chase for French international defender Eliaquim Mangala. Barcelona and Manchester United were also said to be keen but while they enjoy some summer holidaying Chelsea have got back to work early to try push through certain deals.
Despite his poor treatment toward the end of his Chelsea career Florent Malouda has signed of with a touch of class. He showed no signs of bitterness as he wrote on his personal website:
'’It’s been a real pleasure and an honor to wear the blue shirt for 5 years. Coming from Lyon after four successful years with as many champion titles, it was a real challenge to sign for Chelsea FC with the ambition to succeed in the best league in the world: the English Premier League.’’
On the site we have taken a look at the potential re-signing of Nemanja Matic. The Serbian international was allowed to leave in 2011 but it is now valued far higher both financially and professionally. But Mourinho is a fan and may make an approach.
Chelsea’s potential move to a new site in Earls Court may have just moved a step closer. They are expected to be offered an invite to bid on a 17-acre plot of land in the area which may become the venue to a new 60,000 seater arena.
