One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer so far has just suffered another twist; as Stevan Jovetic has spoken publicly about his future in Podgorica.
The Montenegrin is currently on international duty with his country and was speaking to Italian pink-paper La Gazzetta dello Sport about his future; and there is mixed news for long-term suitors Arsenal and Chelsea.
Because, in summary, Jovetic has confirmed he wants to leave current club Fiorentina this season.
But he also hinted at a possible preference toward rivals Juventus should he leave Florence this summer.
Here are a few snippets of what he had to say:
On his future at Fiorentina:
“I don’t want to say the word ‘goodbye,’ as I don’t like it. I’d love for Florence to always maintain a positive image of me…. I have been at Fiorentina since 2008 for five very intense seasons. I feel that I gave my all to Fiorentina, so I have nothing more to give here.’’
Juve have been after me for a year. They say they want me and that in their list I come above Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain. Who wouldn’t be flattered by that? I am…”
On a move to the Premier League:
“I am evaluating overseas moves too. The Premier League and the Liga are fantastic competitions, I do have some proposals, so we’ll see.’’
It is the first time that Jovetic himself has actually addressed the mounting speculation over his future and clearly there are both positive and negatives to take from his words.
First the good news; he acknowledges the interest from England. He clearly does not seem to have his heart solely set on a switch to Turin with the Serie A champions.
The other good news from an Arsenal perspective is Juve telling Jovetic they want him ahead of Gonzalo Higuain; way to make a guy feel wanted Juve.
But when you really read it Juventus seem to be the front-runners for his affections; especially when you consider Jovetic’s comments relating to his price-tag.
He admits he is not sure that the €30 million label placed on him is a fair amount; and currently it seems that is the only thing stopping Juventus snapping him up.
The club simply do not have that sort of money and have so far been rebuffed in any money-plus-player deal they have offered.
Jovetic’s acknowledgement of that issue could be seen as yet another admission on his part that Juventus is his preferred destination.
Do you think Jovetic wants a Juventus move only?
