Oh Mario; you just cannot help staying out the headlines can you?
Of course we mean Mario Balotelli formerly of Manchester City fame.
Recently those headlines have all been pretty rosy. Since leaving for AC Milan in January Balotelli has been in magnificent form; firing in the goals at a phenomenal rate and showcasing more of the raw talent rather than the raw attitude that he possess in equal measure.
But last night he was sent off whilst representing his country for a second bookable offence against the Czech Republic.
At just 22-years-old you might expect some professionals to have one or maybe two red-cards depending on their position; this was Balotelli’s sixth dismissal in his relatively immature career.
Now I am actually going to stand up for Mario a little bit here because while getting booked twice in four minutes is a stupid thing to do; the second yellow was a bizarre decision by the referee who seemed to have his ‘Why Always Me?’ goggles on when deciding to brandish a second yellow for the aerial tangle with Theodor Gebre Selassie.
But it was the reaction after the booking that caused a storm.
He seemingly took the decision reasonably enough until he thought he was out of camera shot; and unleashed a barrage of physical abuse on the walls of the Generali Arena player’s tunnel which caused Italian national coach Cesare Prandelli to say:
“Balotelli has to learn how to accept situations and he needs to grow in that sense. We will drum that message into him. I was going to substitute him, but I didn’t have time”.
Here is the incident below…
Was Balotelli harshly treated? What about his reaction?
