A round-up of Chelsea transfer news from overnight including Edinson Cavani, Wayne Rooney, Romelu Lukaku and Marco Van Ginkel
Chelsea’s interest in Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has been confirmed by the clubs president Aurelio De Laurentiis. The Uruguayan is expected to be the subject of another bid from the club in the near future and while De Laurentiis stated his belief that his star striker would stay he did remain open to the possibility of him leaving:
"Chelsea are interested in Cavani and they will call me soon. I'm very happy that his brother [and agent] has said that he will stay, but if he did decide to go to Chelsea, we would take time out to think and replace him with people worthy of replacing him.’’
Any deal would cost the fee of his release clause (£54 million) but considering the clubs striking deficiencies last year it might just happen; despite the hefty price-tag involved.
Chelsea are being reported as poised to enter the race for Manchester United want-away striker Wayne Rooney. The England international has been linked with several teams since Sir Alex Ferguson dropped him from the squad on the final day of the season and is believed to want more first-team football as a starting striker. Arsenal seem ready to bid for the player which has forced Chelsea’s hand; and as one of the few teams in European football that could afford his transfer fee and wage packet combined.
Again with Demba Ba hardly setting pulses racing and Torres seemingly deciding to score goals exclusively in cup competitions another striker would be fantastic for Jose Mourinho enxt season and must be a priority.
Although they do have the alternative of giving a chance to young Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. The striker had a great season for West Brom whilst on loan last year and could be ready to finally earn his first-team spurs at Stamford Bridge. He insisted he was not scared of competition and was ready to do battle for the striking slot at the club.
Finally and talkSPORT have brought a player profile on Dutch under-21 international Marco van Ginkel as they speculate over the Vitesse Arnhem players potential future; including a move to Chelsea.
The Dutch football talent of the year last season and a full international with Oranje he is wanted by many clubs but Chelsea’s good relationship with the Dutch outfit has made them favourites for his signature.
