Arsenal transfers: Four exciting new players linked this week

Arsenal's healthy finances have seen them linked with more high quality players this week.

Our weekly round-up of the Gunners' latest transfer targets...

Arsenal's chief executive Ivan Gazidis has been bold in his comments regarding Wayne Rooney, a player first linked with the Gunners a month ago.

Rumours surrounding Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain have as usual been continuing to do the rounds, but who new has been linked with joining the club?

Here are the four freshest faces touted as potential Gunners:

David Alaba

Age: 20 Club: Bayern Munich - Position: Left-back/centre-midfield

What's the deal?

David Alaba was Bayern's first choice left-back on their treble run, but is said to want to move into centre-midfield. Arsenal are expected to add a central midfielder and reports in Germany have claimed they have been in touch with the player. Alaba, an Austrian international, faces a tough ask to break past Schweinsteiger and Martinez at Bayern. If a club is able to offer big money and a chance to him to start in the middle then he may be prepared to leave. However he has a contract until 2015, and with Arsenal no longer in need of a left-back, Alaba would only be an option in the centre, and his skilfulness in that position is yet to be proven. This would make a big bid a risk, and is only really likely if Laurent Koscielny forces a move away to Bayern and the Gunners push for Alaba in part-exchange.

Matthias Ginter

Age: 19 - Club: Freiburg - Position: Centre-back

What's the deal?

Matthias Ginter is a cornerstone of an impressive Freiburg side who achieved a top 10 finish in the Bundesliga, and is currently on duty with the Germany under-21 side at the European Championships. He is a central defender who is tipped to replace Per Mertesacker for the national team and partner Mats Hummels. Arsenal are said to be considering planning a bid for Ginter with a long-term view for him to do the same, as they prepare to ship out Johan Djourou. Ginter can also play in defensive midfield which makes him an even more interesting option, and he would cost between £10 and £15 million.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

Age: 18 - Club: Partizan Belgrade - Position: Striker

What's the deal?

Mitrovic is an outstanding striking prospect who made his international debut for Serbia last night. Just 18-year-old, Mitrovic is already a regular for his club Partizan Belgrade and has struck 15 senior goals this season in all competitions, including the Europa League. It was claimed earlier this week Arsenal were close to securing a deal for him. Mitrovic himself has confirmed the Gunners' approach, but Partizan's president has declared the striker not for sale, which leaves any deal in limbo. Arsenal have already secured young striker Sanogo which asks questions over how much of a priority Mitrovic may be.

Marouane Fellaini

Age: 25 - Club: Everton Position: Centre-midfield

What's the deal?

The Times have reported that Arsenal have activated Fellaini's release clause, a move yet to be confirmed by the Gunners or indeed Everton. Fellaini is a central midfielder who is widely expected to move this summer to fulfill his ambition of playing Champions League football. His signing would ease the pressure on Jack Wilshere and give the Gunners a physical presence in the middle of the park they have missed since Patrick Vieira. Manchester United and Chelsea are also rumoured to be interested and could scupper the bid.
