Liverpool latest: Including Anfield development and Aspas medical planned

Everything you need to know to do with Liverpool from the last 24 hours.

Liverpool are close to submitting plans for a £150 million redevelopment of Anfield. The club will push forward with plans to increase the capacity on the current site although they still have to acquire up to 90 houses around the area for the redevelopment to become viable.

Liverpool’s Managing Director Ian Ayre has revealed it could take the club another two years to qualify for the Champions League. Ayre has admitted that the work Brendan Rodgers is doing as manager could take longer than fans will hope for and that patience is the key.

Iago Aspas is set to undergo a medical with the club after rejecting an approach from Tottenham Hotspur. The Celta Vigo striker has been linked with a switch to Anfield for the last couple of weeks and is closing in on completing the deal as other sides look to ruin the club’s bid.

Liverpool have reportedly placed a £14 million price on central defender Martin Skrtel. Skrtel’s future at Anfield is unclear after conflicting reports he would be sold and same saying he wants to stay and fight for his place. Former boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be keen on taking him to the Serie A team.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that the club are closing in on the £3 million capture of Sporting Lisbon defender Thiago Ilori. Ilori is a Portuguese Under-20 international who has spent his entire career at the club, but Brendan Rodgers is thought to be intent on adding him to the defensive reserves of the squad.

Turkish club Fenerbahce have reportedly agreed terms for Benfica striker and Liverpool target Oscar Cardozo. Benfica’s president admitted earlier in the week that although the striker had signed a new contract, they would consider a good offer for his transfer.

Liverpool’s main competition for FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli will come from Tottenham Hotspur. The Express has suggested that both clubs are tracking him with neither holding any advantage as neither side managed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

The agent of Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has indicated his client will not be renewing his contract with the club. That offers hope to Liverpool of signing the talented Belgian shot stopper who has been suggested as a short and long term replacement for Pepe Reina.

Norwich City have reportedly made an approach for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. Shelvey is currently away on international duty with the England Under-21 team and his future at Anfield has been in doubt after he lost his place in the first team towards the end of last season.
