Long-term Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he wants to leave Borussia Dortmund for his “dream club”.
The 24-year-old Polish striker has had another outstanding season both domestically and in Europe, and as he approaches the last year of his contract it seems Jurgen Klopp may have called on the prolific frontman for the last time.
“I want to make things clear,” the player told German magazine Sport Bild. “I want to join the club of my dreams this summer. It would be best for both parties.”
Whether it would be best for Dortmund remains to be seen. But whoever secures Lewandowski’s services would be getting one of the deadliest finishers in Europe.
Rumours continue that the player’s “dream club” is Bayern Munich. And yet Manchester United fans won’t have given up hope that the Polish international may in fact be on his way to Old Trafford. To come out so openly and declare his love for Dortmund’s huge rivals seems unlikely, no matter how much he is angling for a move.
Unless there is quite a twist in this particular saga, it seems the player is on his way to United, Bayern or Real Madrid.
Should he sign for David Moyes’ side, one striker with no intention of making way is Javier Hernandez.
Despite speculation linking him with a move, the player’s agent has said, “He is very happy at Manchester United.”
“Javier has been there three years and has won the league twice. Not many can say they have achieved that.”
It seems unlikely that the new manager will bid farewell to such a natural and enthusiastic supplier of goals.
Speaking of those, Robin van Persie has revealed that former club Arsenal played “games” before he finally secured a move to Old Trafford last summer.
Despite making up his mind very quickly, the Dutchman’s move took a further six weeks to be agreed by all parties.
“It was difficult because it wasn’t only me who decided where I went to play,” van Persie said.
