Roberto Martinez setting himself up for failure?

Martinez to guide Everton to the Champions League?

Martinez has promised Bill Kenwright that he will take Everton on a journey into the Champions League group stages, boldly going where they have not gone before.

It has recently become  a lot tougher to attain such a feat in the Premier League and the final spot was viciously fought after at the end of last season with Chelsea leaving it late to secure third.

It's a bizarre statement for this reason along with many more. Firstly, everyone is agreed that David Moyes did a a fantastic job with Everton with a small squad and little investment.

He gave them stability in the top half of the league, knocking Liverpool off their perch as they climbed above that's why Sir Alex likes him so much!

But I have a few questions about Martinez' appointment and comments;

How is Martinez going to build on what he has with little investment to muscle past Spurs and Arsenal into a top four finish?

Secondly, if Martinez is this good, after all it is he who has a trophy to his name, why was he unable to keep Wigan up and build that squad towards a pie in the sky vision of Champions League qualification?

I think Martinez is good but is he this good? Many are even fearing he will take Everton towards relegation, where he spent his entire managerial reign with Wigan in and narrowly out of the drop zone.

Thirdly, if he is that good and he has the ability to take Everton to the next level then why have Manchester United just employed the manager who couldn't do what he's about to do?

What do you think of Martinez' appointment and comments?
