Three Roma players Franco Baldini could bring with him to Tottenham Hotspur

The former Roma director looks set to be appointed at Tottenham Hotspur in the next few days, which players might Franco Baldini try and raid his old club for this summer?

Here are three who they should try to sign...

Miralem Pjanic

Already frequently being linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Pjanic might be targeted to add some creativity to the Spurs midfield, which has relied heavily on Moussa Dembele since Luka Modric and Rafael Van Der Vaart left last summer. The 23-year-old Bosnian was reportedly a target for Spurs in January, and they might now hope Baldini’s presence at White Hart Lane will give them an edge should they pursue Pjanic again this summer.

Pjanic is adaptable enough to play in a number of positions around the midfield, a quality that Andre Villas-Boas likes to have in his players, and has been quoted as available for around £16million. However Spurs might have some fierce competition, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona also linked to the player in the past.

Erik Lamela

The young jewel in Roma’s crown, the 21-year-old Lamela has been sensational this season, scoring 15 times and setting up five in Serie A. It is very unlikely that the Italian club would be willing to sell Lamela, but considering they did not manage to qualify for any European football next season, they might face a challenge to keep the Argentine if several clubs show an interest.

Baldini will be well aware of Lamela’s ability, and there is no doubt the player would be a boost to Spurs’ attack next season if they could find a way to prise him away from Roma, but this probably has to be filed under wishful thinking for now.

Pablo Osvaldo

Eminently more gettable than Lamela, the tempestuous Osvaldo is another man who has been linked with Spurs in the past. Sixteen goals in 29 Serie A appearances this season might be enough for Spurs to take an interest, especially given the paucity of their current attacking options.

The 27-year-old is a fine finisher, and strong in the air, and likely to be on the move after a season where he has fallen out with Roma’s hierarchy on several occasions. Whether these off the pitch concerns are something that would make Baldini hesitate in signing the striker is yet to be seen, and Osvaldo might only be an option for Spurs if other targets are not available.
