Newcastle United latest: Including Debuchy and Valbuena

A round-up of news and views relating to Newcastle United.

Mathieu Debuchy has brushed off speculation linking him with a move to Monaco this summer, saying that he is hoping to help Newcastle United challenge at the top of the Premier League table again this summer. Debuchy said he had seen the rumours linking him with Monaco, but it made him smile how often the big spending Ligue 1 were linked with new players.

One of those players is Yohan Cabaye, with Monaco reportedly keen to take the 27-year-old midfielder back to France. Cabaye has been lined with Manchester United and Arsenal recently, having impressed in his two season at Newcastle.

Cheick Tiote has said that he expects to stay at Newcastle this summer despite interest from Lokomotiv Moscow. Tiote had a disappointing season last year, and there has been speculation that Newcastle would be happy to sell the Ivorian if a sizeable bid came in, but the midfielder will not actively pursue a move away from St James’ Park.

Reported Newcastle and Arsenal target Mathieu Valbuena has refused to rule a move this summer, with the Marseille midfielder suggesting that whilst he is happy in France he could leave if the right comes in. Valbuena helped Marseille to second place in Ligue 1 last season.

Torino are reportedly in talks with Danny Simpson about a summer move after the right-back’s contract at Newcastle expired at the end of the season. Simpson has also been linked with a move to West Ham and Fulham.

On HITC this week we ask if Newcastle fans would be happy to take Demba Ba back from Chelsea if he was available this summer, and also look at how much of an impact Adam Campbell can have at St James’ Park next season.

Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has said that he hopes his team can sign Shane Ferguson on loan again next season, after the Northern Ireland international impressed at St Andrews this season. Clark might also target Newcastle youngster Paul Dummett, who has been told he can go out on loan to gain first experience.
