According to reports, Andre Cury is busy at work as Barcelona’s South-American representative ardently trying to hash a deal with Chelsea over their Brazilian defender.
Luiz has been one of the Blues’ best performers this season but returning boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be less than enamored with the 26-year-old who only arrived at Stamford Bridge two years ago from Benfica.
Barcelona unveiled their latest signing Neymar, one of the most coveted young stars on the planet for a fee of £50 million from Santos.
According to sources, Neymar’s compatriot Luiz is being targeted as the Catalan’s next priority to sure up their defence after their embarrassing 7-0 defeat on aggregate in the Champions League to eventual winners Bayern Munich.
Luiz’s agent Giuliano Bertolucci is understood to be in talks with Cury with whom he has built a strong working relationship as the pair worked out the deal to take Thiago Motta to Barcelona and Deco to Porto in previous years.
However, the Blues’ returning hero Mourinho could be the major stumbling block in the deal – whilst the Portuguese coach is understood to be happy to let Luiz go, his poor relationship with Barcelona could mean the deal is cumbersome to agree.
Mourinho left the Spanish capital an unpopular figure both with Real Madrid and their archrivals Barcelona who agree on one thing – he was bad for the Spanish national team within which tensions were brewed as result of his behaviour over the last three years.
