One report claims Andre Villas-Boas is ready to tool up and land the first big blows in terms of summer transfers by poaching key players Pereira and Guarin from Inter Milan.
Pereira offers solidity and consistency in the defence, improving the overall quality of that part of the squad and he will also give a little bit of competition to Benoit Assou-Ekotto at left back.
Guarin is a midfield player who can sit and hold or play a more central, slightly more creative role in the middle. He will only enhance the depth that the club already has in terms of midfield players.
Pereira is the more important of the two signings and he should be slightly easier to get.
With William Gallas becoming a free agent at the start of next month, it’s important that Spurs add some quality and experience into the squad to retain the integrity of the back four.
It’s also Pereira’s ability to play well in versatile roles across the back four, which is important because it gives the manager plenty of different options.
He can play just as effectively on the left side of central defence as he can at left back, which allows him to be considered for more options and various jobs than he would be if he only filled one role in the team.
Guarin is a year younger at 26-years-old and he also plays in a more forward position, which will make him more expensive.
He, like Pereira, has a contract at Inter Milan which expires in the summer of 2016 so there is no cheap or easy way for Tottenham to get him.
He would add to the core of central midfield players Spurs already have meaning any player AVB sees getting tired or out of form, he can whip them out of the side and insert Guarin.
He can also play a valuable holding role which will allow the more creative players in the Tottenham midfield to push forward and cause chaos inside the opponent’s final third.
He can cover in that role, which means when Spurs lose the ball, he’s good enough to fill in any position across the midfield, looking to break up the play and get the momentum moving back in Tottenham’s direction.
They would both be quality additions to the Tottenham squad and they can both play a major role in the side.
Spurs are looking to break the top four comfortably next season so it’s important Daniel Levy provides the funds for AVB to make these signings.
Do you think they would be good signings for the club?
