Aston Villa latest: Including Benteke talks and Belhanda bid

Paul Lambert and Aston Villa are thought to want crisis talks with Christian Benteke. Benteke has not made it clear whether he will definitely leave or stay at the club, which has put Aston Villa in an awkward position when it comes to potentially having to replace him.

Montpellier star Younes Belhanda has described Aston Villa as a superb club with a great history. The Moroccan international has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but Montpellier’s chairman has confirmed Villa have already been trying to sign the play maker.

Ivelin Popov has revealed that former Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has been speaking to him about a move to Villa Park. Popov currently plays in the Russian league and admits while he’s interested in the move, a deal is far from being completed.

Aston Villa are reportedly ready to put a £40 million price tag on star striker Christian Benteke. The fee is intended to put sides off from signing the big Belgian with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid all being linked with him on a daily basis.

Aston Villa have rejected claims that they are considering a swap deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Christian Benteke. The proposed deal sees Jermain Defoe moving to Villa Park with the highly rated Benteke heading in the opposite direction to White Hart Lane.

Richard Dunne’s former manager Joe Royle says the centre back still has a lot to offer professional football and Ireland. Dunne struggled with fitness throughout last season leaving Aston Villa battling against relegation with a very inexperienced defence and under huge pressure.

Eric Lichaj and Simon Dawkins are among the names of players who have been told they won’t feature in the Premier League next season. Villa boss Paul Lambert has acted quickly to clear his squad and release players who will be surplus to requirements next season.

Aston Villa have paid Torquay United £50,000 for 16-year-old striker Liam Prynn. The forward has just settled into the Under-18 team at Torquay and becomes the latest player to join Villa in his teenage years as Paul Lambert continues his youth policy at the club.
