The Premier League title race ended a little flat this year with United winning with several games to spare.
Manchester City will be looking to fight back and are already making some early signings, with the complexion of the transfer window made even more unpredictable by both clubs bringing in new managers.
Likewise Chelsea have been boosted by the return of Jose Mourinho, and Arsenal have more money to spend than in previous summers.
Waleed Zafar has taken a look at who each of the top four sides need to bring in during the summer transfer window.
After the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson all eyes shall be on David Moyes and their team to see how they perform. What was notable from last season was the United midfield that seemed to lack a proper defensive midfielder.
Carrick was superb last season and Wenger said he deserved to be player of the season, however when Carrick wasn’t playing in Midfield and someone like Phil Jones was, you could see the United team struggle.
What the Champions need is someone like Yann M’Vila. He is defensively solid and has a wonderful passing range, so I see him being a hand in glove fit for United.
Manchester City: With the sacking of Roberto Mancini and the imminent arrival of Manuel Pellegrini, it looks like a new era for Manchester City. If or when City officially signs Pellegrini, he shall be there best signing by far. What he brings to the table is what City need, discipline.
The team has too many egos and require good team unity and Pellegrini shall definitely bring that. But City needs to build on their current squad with a Defensive Midfielder, a Winger and a Central Defender to reduce the pressure on Kompany.
Two of these issues have almost been addressed with the imminent signing of Jesus Navas (an extremely quick and skilful winger) and Fernandinho (a strong defensive midfielder with a great passing range).
All they have to do now is to find a good Centre Back; Adil Rami or Neven Subotic as both fit the bill quite nicely with good aerial ability and pace.
Chelsea: The signing of Jose Mourinho has immediately made Chelsea one of the favourites to win the title this coming season but it’s a long term project so the fans must be patient.
All these strikers linked with Chelsea are in my opinion unnecessary because all they need is too keep Lukaku and start playing him like Mourinho used to play Drogba in the glory days.
Lukaku is going to be a world beater, I can guarantee you that. Chelsea also needs to address the David Luiz issue and he has shown in the recent games that he would be a great Defensive Midfielder which Mikel struggled to be last season.
If he moves to Defensive Midfield then Chelsea need a new Centre Back and Mats Hummels or Neven Subotic would be World Class signings.
Arsenal: They have gone through a rough couple of years and Wenger has somehow managed to keep Arsenal in the Top 4 year in, year out. But now the ambition has changed and the club want more after virtually paying off their stadium debt.
What Arsenal need to do now is to retain all key players, that includes Koscielny who for some reason is linked with a move away from the club but I don’t see that happening.
However, Arsenal must buy a goal scorer who can provide some competition with Giroud and Higuain seems to be that man. Higuain himself has come out and said that Arsenal would suit him.
If Arsenal acquires him, Frimpong and Coquelin stay fit and become first team ready and Arsenal also purchases a decent defender, hopefully Adil Rami, then the Gunners are in line with a title challenge.
Who should be each of the top four's biggest priorities?
