Earlier this week it was revealed by Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido that the club had recently rejected an approach from West Ham United for one of their star players.
It was believed that a fee believed to be in the region of £14 million was offered to Los Rojiblancos for the services of their striker Alvaro Negredo.
Now while this brings up all other connotations regarding the future of Andy Carroll et cetera the fact remains that Negredo would be a great signing.
He scored four goals against Valencia last weekend to fire his team into Europe and dump Valencia out of the Champions League places; it was something of an astronomical effort from the big centre forward.
So if it appears that Carroll has no desire to stay on at Upton Park beyond his loan spell from Liverpool; Negredo would be the perfect signing.
Why else would Everton, Swansea, Atletico Madrid and everyone else mentioned with a vested interest in the lad be so keen to tie up a deal.
So the news Hammers fans would like to hear is that Sevilla are looking for a new centre-forward; and they are.
Whats more it is going to be a name very familiar to their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Because the player in question once played one season with the club but scored just twice during that time.
He also cost them a whopping €9 million and his status as a star of the future quickly dissipated after his dreadful spell in England.
The player in question was Portuguese flop Helder Postiga.
Now we England fans know him a little differently as he has certainly got one over on the Three Lions in the past.
But after Spurs things did not go much better in a return spell with Porto and loan outings at the likes of French outfit Saint Etienne and Panathinaikos of Greece.
It wasn’t until a move to Sporting Lisbon that things turned on their head again and he has established himself in Spain as a dangerous goal-poacher.
This season, in a below par Zaragoza side, he managed 14 goals in 37 league games; not mind blowing considering the top scorer was Lionel Messi with 46 but respectable to say the least.
Now Sevilla are reportedly set to sign him up and with just a year left on his current deal they could get a bargain price for the 30-year-old.
Are we saying he is a replacement for Negredo? Well obviously not but with the more frugal times hitting the Spanish League teams like Sevilla need to cut costs; and cashing in on Negredo while bringing in Postiga - and Deportivo striker Riki on the cheap - might just make perfect sense.
What are your memories of Helder Postiga?
