Manchester United want to beat Arsenal to Jovetic - report

Manchester United are trying to beat Arsenal to the signing of Stevan Jovetic according to reports in Italy.

The transfer window is not officially open yet it is moving at a frenetic pace.

Stevan Jovetic is one of the key protagonists, with Fiorentina steadfast in demanding £25 million and not a penny less for the forward.

Arsenal are the club most pressingly linked with his signature, with Juventus also trying to sign him.

Chelsea are also said to be lurking, and now it is claimed that Manchester United have joined the race.

The news comes from Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport - One of the largest sports news outlets in the country which claims the Red Devils have been in contact for the attacker.

Before the paper went on sale, Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri confirmed the existence of the report on Twitter.

It was also reported on TuttoJuve's press preview, which states Marchisio can be bought for €30 million and United are in for Jovetic and reported by ForzaItalianFootball.

The report raises two key of questions:

* Is this simply the work of Jovetic's agent trying to use United's name to force the hand of Arsenal and Juventus?

* Could this be a sign that Wayne Rooney will be sold by the Red Devils, with Jovetic a potential replacement?

The answers to those will not come in the next 24 hours, but will probably take the entire summer to unravel.

In the mean time, this is simply another twist in football's rollercoaster transfer window saga.

What do you think United enquiring after Jovetic?
