Manchester United offered fresh hope of re-signing Ronaldo

Manchester United have possibly been offered another chance to their hopes of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spanish newspaper AS has suggested that Ronaldo has rejected a new contract extension with the Spanish giants, which opens up the possibility of an Old Trafford return.

Florentino Perez said before he was re-elected Real Madrid president that he would go all out to ensure that Ronaldo stayed at the Spanish club for the rest of his career, retiring in the Spanish capital.

He’s always made good on his promises before an election because it was his promise to buy Ronaldo from Manchester United in the first place.

If the report is accurate then United may have the first option on buying back Ronaldo should he decide he wants to come back to England.

However, that’s a huge if at this stage because this is the same newspaper which has just said that Roberto Martinez was destined for Liverpool, despite an agreement that he’s in line to become Everton’s next boss, which was announced yesterday.

If Ronaldo is coming back to England then the only thing, which could stop United from re-signing him comes in the shape of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

Mourinho and Ronaldo have a relationship, which has just been shattered by the Spanish club’s decision to let Mourinho leave for Chelsea without any fight whatsoever.

Chelsea certainly have the resources to make good on a move for Ronaldo, who would require a staggering fee despite the fact he only has two years left on his current contract in Spain.

However, he’s said himself that it would be very difficult for him to play in England for any other club and the fact United will have the first chance to work out a deal could be pivotal in his future.

Even if the story from AS is true, Perez has more than one ace up his sleeve and has even said he’d make Ronaldo the best paid player in the history of football just to get him to stay at the club.

A lot does depend on who is appointed as the next Real Madrid coach because whichever way you look at it, there is reason for Ronaldo to feel alienated with Real Madrid at the moment.

If he comes back to England he has two choices. One is to play for Manchester United and another is to take the money down at Chelsea long with the relationship with Mourinho.

Do you think the report is true? Will he be at Real Madrid next season?
