Oculus Rift co-founder dies in police chase

Virtual reality guru innocent victim of unexpected and tragic accident.

Andew Reisse, a founding member of leading virtual reality group Oculus Rift, was killed during a police chase through the streets of Santa Ana, according to ABC news.

Struck while making his way over a crosswalk, the 33-year-old's sudden and tragic death has triggered waves of sympathy in the games industry.

“Andrew was unique in so many interesting ways. He was extraordinarily kind and utterly selfless. He was a mentor and an inspiration to everyone around him,” read a statement on the Oculus website.

“Andrew’s contributions span far and wide in the video game industry. His code is embedded in thousands of games played by millions of people around the world.”

Police report that the suspects attempting to flee an earlier violent altercation with officers when they ran through several red lights.

The suspects, all gang members, were taken into custody following the event, with one, 21-year-old Victor Sanchez, being taken to hospital to recover from injuries.
