Liverpool should raid Real Madrid in the process of selling Luis Suarez if they are forced to do so.
All of the press speculation is pointing towards the possibility that Luis Suarez will be sold to Real Madrid this summer but rather than take big money, the club should demand players in exchange as part of the deal.
Suarez clearly has issues with England and English football and regardless of what his agent says, if Real Madrid dangle a good looking carrot in front of the Liverpool board then it could trigger a possibly huge deal.
Here are five players Liverpool should try and include in any deal.
The former Kop favourite has already thrown cold water on rumours linking him back to Anfield but that could change if he becomes pivotal in a deal to land Suarez.
Alonso is perfectly engineered for the way Liverpool like to play their current football, he’s popular at the club and he’s guaranteed a starting place in and around a talented group of young midfielders.
Varane has enjoyed his breakthrough season at Real Madrid thanks to Jose Mourinho.
Now Mourinho is gone, it opens up the possibility that Varane could be tempted away from the club. Liverpool could offer him a guaranteed starting place and the chance to shape and dominate the identity of Liverpool’s back four over the next few seasons.
Angel di Maria
Di Maria is one of the best wingers Real Madrid currently have and similarly to Alonso, he’s perfectly suited to the way Liverpool are playing their football.
He’s very small but very skilful, with lightning pace which is good enough to get the better of most modern Premier League full backs. It would hamper the development of Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe but it’s worth taking him if he can be included.
It looks as though Gonzalo Higuain is destined for Italy, which means the only other striker worth going after for Liverpool, other than Cristiano Ronaldo of course, is Karim Benzema.
Benzema would certainly elevate the profile of Liverpool’s attack and he would bring key experience to the table in terms of the goals he scores and the knowledge of different styles and brands of football he possesses.
Albiol is a player that Liverpool have been linked with heavily over the last couple of months and his versatility would make him a superb defender to have available.
His ability to play in the middle of the defence or as a full back would give Brendan Rodgers different options, which is important in the size of Liverpool’s current squad. Albiol would also give Liverpool the option of still getting a fee from Real Madrid in the same deal, as he’s nowhere near the value of Suarez financially.
Which Real Madrid players do you think Liverpool should go after?
